ज्वारसिद्धान्त
ज्वारसिद्धान्त (Theory of tides) के अन्तर्गत सांतत्यक यांत्रिकी (continuum mechanics) का उपयोग करके ज्वारों के निर्माण की व्याख्या एवं भविष्यवाणि की जाती है। ज्वार किसी भी ग्रह या उपग्रह पर किसी दूसरे खगोलीय पिण्ड या पिण्डों के गुरुत्वीय आकर्षण से उत्पन्न हो सकते हैं। किन्तु ज्वार सिद्धान्त आमतौर पर धरती के सागरों की तरलगतिकीय गति का विश्लेषण करता है।
